The AirPods Pro is a fantastic pair of headphones, but it's not the best for everyone. Sure, it's hard to beat if you're wedded to the Apple ecosystem, but it's not as appealing if you use an Android phone or a Windows PC, or both. If you're looking for a good deal on a premium AirPods Pro alternative that has better sound quality, look no further than the Sony WF-1000XM5, which is $100 off during Prime Day 2025, and quite close to its lowest ever price.

I know Sony doesn't make it easy to remember its products with its awful naming convention. There's no easy way to memorize a product name that sounds like a strong alphanumeric password—especially when there are two completely different Sony products that have a very similar name. The Sony WH-1000XM5 is the pair of over-ear headphones I wrote about yesterday, while the one I'm talking about today is called WF-1000XM5, and it's a pair of portable noise cancelling earbuds that takes on Apple's AirPods. The two Sony headphones' names have just a single different character. H is for the bigger cans, while F is for the portable earbuds.
I assure you that once you use Sony's WF-1000XM5, you're not going to forget it as easily. This is one of the best sounding earbuds out there, and it's earned its place on Lifehacker's list of the best wireless earbuds of 2025. In the PCMag review of these headphones, they've been praised for sound quality, noise cancellation, mic clarity, the wireless charging case, and adjustable audio quality via an equalizer in its companion app. The review criticizes the app for being slightly bloated, and calls its price the only other major con. There's nothing you can do about the app, but the sale price is definitely a lot better at $199, as compared to the list price of $299. The all-time low for the Sony WF-1000XM5 is $180, which means you're still getting a good deal if you choose to buy these headphones during Prime Day 2025.
